Our Ledge

We sit on our ledge, and darkness surrounds.
We cannot go up, and we cannot go down.
Faith strong and true may drop us to light,
But left unchecked, we will fall again from sight.

We sit on our ledge with its anger unfelt,
And instead, we learn the apathy and numbness that is dealt.
Now we think pure reason sustains longer than faith,
But always forgetting this existence is crueller than pain.

So is there a balance on that edge in between,
And can a soul learn before it has seen?
In time we may feel that this edge is immense,
And with time and patience, our minds’ bridges may be built.
